SCENE ONE
ESTABLISHING SHOT OF COLLEGE
SCENE TWO
PERSON A and PERSON B both walk the same way through college towards the doors. They both look bored and like normal college students. PERSON A is carrying many books. PERSON A is in front of PERSON B, 4 meters apart. PERSON A drops one of the books and PERSON B sees it.
CUT TO:
PERSON B is overly shocked.
CUT TO:
PERSON B then picks up the book.
CUT TO:
PERSON B looks worried and shouts over to PERSON A.
PERSON B
(Loudly)
Excuse me; I think you’ve dropped your book
CUT TO:
PERSON A then turns around with a very shocked expression.
CUT TO:
They smile and look happy.
CUT TO:
Both characters walk together at a fast pace.
CUT TO:
PERSON B passes the book back to PERSON A. PERSON A says thanks seeming happy and relieved.

Introduction to unit G324:; Advanced Portfolio - lesson objectives
The purpose of this unit is firstly to assess your ability to plan and construct media products using appropriate technical and creative skills (AO3); secondly to assess your ability to apply knowledge and understanding in evaluating your own work, showing how meanings and responses are created (AO2); and finally to assess your ability to undertake, apply and present appropriate research (AO4).The unit requires you to engage with contemporary media technologies, giving you the opportunity to develop your own skills in these technologies. It also enables you to develop the skills of presentation that are required for further study at higher levels and in the workplace.

IPC and Bauer
Bauer and IPC
Bauer and IPC are two separate companies that dominate the UK magazine market.
Bauer is an independent company, whilst IPC media is part of the American Time Warner group conglomerate.
The Bauer publishing group was founded in Hamburg 1875 by a man named Johann Bauer. Bauer entered the UK scene with a magazine called, ‘Bella magazine’, in 1987’ and by this time they were already very successful with an annual turnover of 1.79 billion euro. Bella was a women’s magazine, very successful. Then in 1990 the launch of ‘Take a Break’, also managed to touch many women’s lives. It sold over 1 million copies a week.
In 2008 Bauer had changed its name to Bauer media as it had expanded its portfolio.
Bauer is now the largest consumer, publishing women’s magazines, such as women’s interests, women’s lifestyle, TV listings, puzzles and music and film.
IPC media is a leading UK consumer magazine publisher, with over 26 million UK adults reading it. Their magazines include, ‘Women’, ‘Now’, ‘Marie Claire’, ‘Ideal Home, ‘Nuts’, etc…
IPC is currently owned by Time Inc, the publishing division of Time Warner Inc.
IPC have divisions; such as IPCSOUTHBANK, which focuses on two key markets, women’s lifestyle, and women’s home. Also IPCINSPIRE is the biggest division within IPC, providing magazines and associated websites and events for a massive range of specialist interests.

Ideas for Main Product
Target audience – A mainstream audience, 16-24 year olds and both genders.
Sub Genre – Heavy metal
Title – Tenacious shows determination, persistent and stubbornness.
Main cover image – A heavy metal band (4 members); using angry facial expressions, leather, dark clothing, heavy metal hand gestures by 3 of them, arm showing from the drummer at the end; wild, gelled hair. Dark lighting from the side of the band member showing arm, darkening from left to right, with a really dark shadow at the right hand side.
Main splash article – Joe blogs raze another gig in style.
Other possible contents – Pete Doherty’s messy life as a rock star. The new guitarists in London smash an open top bus. Win Metallica’s autograph.
Target audience – Pop magazine, Disney fans, 11 – 16 year olds and mainly female.
Title – New Tune shows that we have the latest music, or tunes, out.
Sub genre – A new type of genre; Disney genre.
Main cover image – The two main characters from a new Disney film called; ‘I wish I was a pop star’; a girl and a boy; both holding microphones, back to back looking at the camera. Looking colourful and bubbly, and wearing fashionable and modern clothes. Also the lighting will be very high key.
Main splash article – Exclusive behind the scene footage from the cast of I Wish I Was a Popstar.
Other possible contents – Kelly Clarkson’s mishaps from her teenage years. Mcfly flies into stardom. Busted go bust.
Target audience – A mainstream audience. R&B. 12 – 16 year olds, both genders.
